We will gather tonight (Tuesday) for prayer at 7:00 pm. This will be our last monthly healing service for 2017. It may also be our last monthly healing service. We are evaluating our Church Ministries to determine if we are being good stewards of our time and energy. We will look at how this ministry is blessing others and consider if there are other ways we can strengthen our prayer ministries. If this ministry has borne fruit in your life or another’s life please come tonight and share witness of these blessings. If you can’t come please give a call to me or send an email to share those blessings.

Praying alongside you, Nellie

At the Firemen's Banquet we always try and provide them with finger food before the banquet starts.  If you have an appetizer or cookie you would like to contribute I know they will enjoy it.  Your recipe does not need to be doubled or large quantity.  It is just enough for them to sample - they will have a meal afterwards.

Friendship is preparing and serving the meal at the House of Agape (HoA) Dec. 21st. The menu is pinto beans with ham, mac and cheese, slaw, rolls, dessert, tea, water and coffee.  We are also preparing small gift bags for those who come to the HoA for a warm meal and fellowship.

Please consider joining us for this very meaningful ministry.  Let me know if you would like to help prepare part of the meal or help serve and fellowship with us.

We meet at the center (839 Ashton Street) around 5:30 pm, begin serving around 6:00 and wrap up around 7:00 .

We are looking forward to a very special time with our friends at HoA and hope you will join us.

Listed below is the information needed to access the meal calendar for the women's shelter which houses women and children.  I talked to the Salvation Army this morning and they are in need of meals for the shelter the week of Christmas.  Also they expressed a need for shampoo, conditioner, soap (shower gel or bar soap), and lotion.  There will be a collection box at church for donations.

There are also 18 remaining angels on their angel tree.  If you are interested in taking one or more of these angels during this season, please go by the Salvation Army on Oakland Avenue and they will give you the information.

If you would like to prepare a meal, please sign up on the Take Them A Meal calendar.  You will need to prepare for 20 people.  The recipient and password are case sensitive..

Recipient:  Warming Center

Password:  WC2017

Please keep those in need in our community in prayer.

Thank you,
Donna

Angel Tree names will be available Sunday.   I hope you will plan to pick up your names as soon as possible.  All gifts need to be returned to the church by Sunday, December 17.  Please make sure you attach the Angel Tree gift tag with child's name or number to the gift.

Thanks for your generous support for this program each year!  Your gifts mean a lot to the children in our local community.  We try to help families that are struggling to pay basic living expenses, yet they don't qualify for other outreach programs.

Lesslie Fire Department will be using our fellowship hall, Saturday, December 16 for their annual Fire Department Banquet.  We will decorate the fellowship hall, 10 individual tables (6 place settings) and 2 head tables (8 place setting) for the banquet.  All tables will need to be decorated by Thursday evening, December 14.

SPECIAL NOTE:

Friendship Ladies, this year we get to enjoy using the fellowship hall while it is decorated.  We will have a special ladies event on Friday, December 15 at 6 pm. Please plan to attend.

The men & women from Lesslie Fire Department look forward to seeing all the decorations. If you would like to help decorate the fellowship hall or an individual table please let me know as soon as possible.  Please send me a confirmation even if you have previously told me you will help.  Also, let me know if you would rather have a round table or a rectangle table.  We have 7 round tables so they will be on a first request basis.

If you have toy fire trucks or decorations around your house, I would love to borrow them.  They do not have to be new or in good condition.  I thought it would be fun to place them around in different spots throughout the fellowship hall.

Items you will need to provide for individual tables:

  • decorations for your table
  • china for 6 people (it does not have to be Christmas china)
  • cloth napkins (unless you request church napkins)
  • tablecloths (unless you request use of church tablecloth)

The church will provide the following:

  • silverware
  • stemware or Christmas glasses (those are in the cabinet in kitchen) let me know if you want to use those and I will get them down and put your name on a set.
  • we have red, gold and a few white tablecloths - let me know if you plan to use one of those and the color so I can reserve one for you
  • numerous white, ivory, dull gold napkins are available and some green and red napkins - let me know if you would like to use napkins
Thank you!
Sara

It’s that time of year again – cold weather is coming and we have those in our community with no warm place to go at night.

The Men’s Warming Center at Bethel  is opening November 12, 2017 and will remain open until April 1, 2018 for this winter season.  Orientation for the center is being held Monday (10/23/17) at Bethel UMC at 7 pm in the family life center.  If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity or just interested in hearing what the center is all about, please plan to attend.

We have supported the shelter in many ways through donations and we now have an opportunity to help by providing meals and fellowship.  The meal calendar is now available if you wish to sign up to prepare a meal.  You can sign up by going to the Bethel UMC website (http://www.bethelumcrockhill.org/mens-shelter.aspx) or the Take Them A Meal website (http://www.takethemameal.com/index.php).  There are two options – the evening meal or breakfast.  Under ‘Find’, type in one of the following logins:

A new opportunity to support the Men’s Warming Center Guests and Men’s Warming Center Security Officers through the love of Christ is beginning this year.  The Kingdom Partner will be a volunteer who intentionally plans to be at the Men's Warming Center to introduce themselves and have conversations with guests and the security officer.  The following are a few suggestions on how to get a conversation started, but the conversation should not be limited to the following:

Are you from Rock Hill?  (Welcome the guest/officer, and remind them we are glad to have them here.)

Support questions for the security officer:
  • How is your day?
  • Anything going on that you need help with tonight?
  • How can I pray for you?
Support questions for guests:
  • How are things going?
  • How was your day?
  • What got you to this point?
  • How can I pray for you?
  • Share a message of hope, if needed.

If you are interested in volunteering as a Kingdom Partner, training will be offered during orientation 10/23/17.

FOR SALE

We still have 9 marble top tables and 15 chairs available for sale.  They are nice heavy weight tables and the chairs have a vinyl seat.  They would be great for a covered porch area or to use inside.  If you know of someone that has a small restaurant or event area these would be perfect.  I attached a picture of the table & chairs.

The tables are $30 each and the chairs are $5 each.  Please post this info on your facebook and share it with your friends.

We also have 4 replacement double pane windows that are in good shape.  They are $100 for all four windows.

Friendship will be serving a meal at the House of Agape on Thursday  (12/2117
and spending time with our brothers and sisters who gather at HoA.
It would be wonderful to have a good crowd from Friendship to share in this
special time.  We meet at House of Agape (839 Ashton St.) at 5:30, have a
short devotion around 6:00 and serve the meal afterward.  If you have any
questions, please contact Donna at 366-3074. Hope to see you there.

The  Trustees are working on a project to ensure the owners of the grave plots for the Friendship Cemetery and the locations are correct.

The real issue is that we have one very old drawing. This drawing has markings on it showing the current grave plots that are occupied and those empty plots sold.  However, some folks bought plots and later gave or sold them to other people. This change may not be reflected on the drawing that we have. Thus, we are requesting the following:

If you own a grave plot in the Friendship Cemetery please send me a note at tonypjackson@comporium.net and/or let us get a copy made of your receipt that shows the exact location of that plot.

We will use this information to update the old drawing we have and make a list of plots.  It would be a very serious event to have a loved one pass on only to discover that the grave plot you thought you had was already taken.  We are trying to clean up our records to ensure this never occurs as the Friendship Cemetery fills up.

Thank you for helping us.

Patricia Cloninger Seminary Fund

The Staff-Parrish Committee in conjunction with the Finance Committee has established a fund to assist Patricia with monetary needs as she prepares to enter seminary. One of the first things on the list is sophisticated voice recognition software that will enable Patricia to create documents and assignments in Microsoft Office applications using voice. This is exciting since it will speed up the time consuming process of typing with one hand. There will be other needs but we are thrilled to be able to assist Patricia in her call to the Ministry. If you would care to contribute to the fund, please mark your donations “Patricia Cloninger Seminary Fund.” May God receive the praise and glory.
