Loving God, loving people, serving the world.

Reminders & Announcements

upcoming events

God has given us a wonderful sign of God's love in the gift of His only begotten son! Happy Valentine’s Day from God! Today we join in remembering Jesus journey to the cross as the Lenten season begins for 2018. During this journey we will acknowledge our sin, acknowledge our mortality and be thankful for Jesus who offers forgiveness and everlasting life.

I am looking forward to sharing the Ash Wednesday Service with you. This year we will meet at Heath Memorial, at 7:00 p.m. The imposition of ashes is optional - if you don't want "dirt"/ashes on your face it is not necessary. What is valuable is self- examination and recognition of who we are and who God is.

See you there, Nellie

We are once again serving a meal at the House of Agape on Thursday, February 15th. The menu is below. If you can prepare one of the needed items and/or help serve the meal please respond to me at

Thanks in advance for your assistance with this.

Vegetable Beef soup (Sandy will make the soup, recipe to serve 50)

2 Loaves of sandwiches: peanut butter and jelly

2 Loaves of sandwiches: bologna

Large box saltine crackers

Tea sweet and unsweet

I will let Robyn know that I will do the devotion. Their people take 20+ minutes when they do it and seem to lose the crowd after about 10 minutes. It's hard to concentrate when you are smelling good food!!

Dear FUMC Family and Friends,

We have all supported Jim and Sandy and their family with our prayers, presence and love as they have dealt with the loss of their dear Karson.  Because many of us do not have access to the GoFundMe account set up for memorial donations for the Shade Shelter Project but wish to show our love and support for the Ransom family, FUMC will receive love offering gifts which will be given to Jim and Sandy to contribute directly to the Shade Shelter Project or to another worthy cause.  The fund will remain open through February 25.  Debbie intends to continue the mission work which was so important and dear to Karson’s heart.  Let’s all continue to pray for peace and comfort for the family and for God’s guidance for Debbie as she determines the best way to continue Karson’s passion for helping others.

Sylvia mentioned Sunday that the Men’s Warming center could use warm sweatshirts, sweaters, gloves and shoes. If you can bring any of these to church Sunday it would be greatly appreciated.

I was reading “Our Daily Bread” this morning and the following was the closing prayer, so appropriate for this request.

“Lord, please open our eyes to the needs of others, open our hearts to those people, and open our hands so we can provide help in the time of need.”

Thanks for all you can do,

Administrative Council

Friendship is preparing and serving the meal at the House of Agape (HoA) Feb 15th. The menu is TBA.

Please consider joining us for this very meaningful ministry.  Let me know if you would like to help prepare part of the meal or help serve and fellowship with us.

We meet at the center (839 Ashton Street) around 5:30 pm, begin serving around 6:00 and wrap up around 7:00 .

We are looking forward to a very special time with our friends at HoA and hope you will join us.

Listed below is the information needed to access the meal calendar for the women's shelter which houses women and children.  I talked to the Salvation Army this morning and they are in need of meals for the shelter the week of Christmas.  Also they expressed a need for shampoo, conditioner, soap (shower gel or bar soap), and lotion.  There will be a collection box at church for donations.

There are also 18 remaining angels on their angel tree.  If you are interested in taking one or more of these angels during this season, please go by the Salvation Army on Oakland Avenue and they will give you the information.

If you would like to prepare a meal, please sign up on the Take Them A Meal calendar.  You will need to prepare for 20 people.  The recipient and password are case sensitive..

Recipient:  Warming Center

Password:  WC2017

Please keep those in need in our community in prayer.

Thank you,

The group providing meals the last Tues of each month at House of Agape had to drop out and they are looking for someone(s)to provide meals for our local low income and homeless at HoA.

If you are interested in participating in this very meaningful ministry, or know of someone who would be interested, the link to the HoA meal calendar is listed below or you can reach out to Robyn Large (

Thank you, Donna

We are in need of a Heavy Duty utility cart with wheels for Bethel Men’s Warming Center (preferable with 3 tiers).
If you know of one available, please let me know.  Blessings!

It’s that time of year again – cold weather is coming and we have those in our community with no warm place to go at night.

The Men’s Warming Center at Bethel  is opening November 12, 2017 and will remain open until April 1, 2018 for this winter season.  Orientation for the center is being held Monday (10/23/17) at Bethel UMC at 7 pm in the family life center.  If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity or just interested in hearing what the center is all about, please plan to attend.

We have supported the shelter in many ways through donations and we now have an opportunity to help by providing meals and fellowship.  The meal calendar is now available if you wish to sign up to prepare a meal.  You can sign up by going to the Bethel UMC website ( or the Take Them A Meal website (  There are two options – the evening meal or breakfast.  Under ‘Find’, type in one of the following logins:

A new opportunity to support the Men’s Warming Center Guests and Men’s Warming Center Security Officers through the love of Christ is beginning this year.  The Kingdom Partner will be a volunteer who intentionally plans to be at the Men's Warming Center to introduce themselves and have conversations with guests and the security officer.  The following are a few suggestions on how to get a conversation started, but the conversation should not be limited to the following:

Are you from Rock Hill?  (Welcome the guest/officer, and remind them we are glad to have them here.)

Support questions for the security officer:
  • How is your day?
  • Anything going on that you need help with tonight?
  • How can I pray for you?
Support questions for guests:
  • How are things going?
  • How was your day?
  • What got you to this point?
  • How can I pray for you?
  • Share a message of hope, if needed.

If you are interested in volunteering as a Kingdom Partner, training will be offered during orientation 10/23/17.

We still have 9 marble top tables and 15 chairs available for sale.  They are nice heavy weight tables and the chairs have a vinyl seat.  They would be great for a covered porch area or to use inside.  If you know of someone that has a small restaurant or event area these would be perfect.  I attached a picture of the table & chairs.

The tables are $30 each and the chairs are $5 each.  Please post this info on your facebook and share it with your friends.

We also have 4 replacement double pane windows that are in good shape.  They are $100 for all four windows.

We will be offering coffee service in the Lynn Lewis/Choir room on Sunday mornings.
It will be available from 9:30 to 10:45. Stop by for a cup and some Fellowship.

The Discovery class will continue to have coffee in the Fellowship Hall and anyone is
welcome to stop by there for coffee as well.

The  Trustees are working on a project to ensure the owners of the grave plots for the Friendship Cemetery and the locations are correct.

The real issue is that we have one very old drawing. This drawing has markings on it showing the current grave plots that are occupied and those empty plots sold.  However, some folks bought plots and later gave or sold them to other people. This change may not be reflected on the drawing that we have. Thus, we are requesting the following:

If you own a grave plot in the Friendship Cemetery please send me a note at and/or let us get a copy made of your receipt that shows the exact location of that plot.

We will use this information to update the old drawing we have and make a list of plots.  It would be a very serious event to have a loved one pass on only to discover that the grave plot you thought you had was already taken.  We are trying to clean up our records to ensure this never occurs as the Friendship Cemetery fills up.

Thank you for helping us.

Patricia Cloninger Seminary Fund

The Staff-Parrish Committee in conjunction with the Finance Committee has established a fund to assist Patricia with monetary needs as she prepares to enter seminary. One of the first things on the list is sophisticated voice recognition software that will enable Patricia to create documents and assignments in Microsoft Office applications using voice. This is exciting since it will speed up the time consuming process of typing with one hand. There will be other needs but we are thrilled to be able to assist Patricia in her call to the Ministry. If you would care to contribute to the fund, please mark your donations “Patricia Cloninger Seminary Fund.” May God receive the praise and glory.
